Das Passagen-Werk (The Arcades Project), the great intellectual project of Walter Benjamin's, is probably one of the most ambitious works dealing with a critique of modernity. The tragic migratory flows are very far from the Baudelairean flâneur but much closer to the Benjaminian stroller, who - why not? - has been in the past the doorkeeper from Kafka’s parable "Before the Law".
